MEET THE TEAM

The people behind the projects.

Built on experience, hard work and a genuine passion for the countryside.

Steve, founder of RTS Countryside
Founder · MSc (School of Forest Sciences, UCNW, Bangor)

Stephen Cornish

Steve founded RTS Countryside from a lifelong passion for the outdoors and a belief that great countryside management is about leaving the land in a better condition than it was found. What began when his children were young, with little more than a wheelbarrow, a handful of tools and the back of his car, has grown into the trusted business RTS (Redwood Tree Specialists) is today through hard work, dedication and an unwavering commitment to doing things properly.

Combining decades of practical experience with a ??BSc (Hons) in ?? and an MSc in ?? from University Centre North Wales (Bangor), Steve has built RTS on a reputation for professionalism, reliability and expert workmanship. His experience spans forestry, tree surgery, conservation management, peatland restoration and large scale site clearance, allowing him to oversee projects of all sizes with confidence and attention to detail.

Although Steve spends plenty of time planning projects and keeping the business moving, you'll rarely find him sitting behind a desk for long. The office is where the work starts but the countryside is where he'd much rather be. Whether he's walking on site with a client, working alongside the team or planning the best approach to a project, Steve believes the best decisions are made with a pair of boots on rather than from behind a computer screen.

For Steve, every project is about more than simply completing the work it's about building trusted relationships, protecting the landscapes we work in and passing on the same values that helped grow RTS from a one man operation into the respected business it is today.

Tom, plant and machinery specialist
Lead Operator · Plant & Machinery Specialist

Thomas Cornish

Tom has a genuine passion for machinery and the outdoors and is happiest behind the controls of an excavator or specialist forestry equipment. With years of hands on experience operating a wide range of machinery, he's the person you want behind the controls when precision, skill and experience matter most.

Whether it's restoring peatlands, clearing sites, handling timber or tackling challenging ground conditions, Tom enjoys getting stuck into every project and takes real pride in doing the job properly. His practical knowledge, ability behind the controls and enthusiasm for machinery make him an invaluable part of the RTS Countryside team.

Sam, tree surgeon and head of firewood production
Forestry & Tree Surgery Specialist · Head of Firewood Production

Samuel Cornish

Sam is rarely found standing still. He's happiest outdoors, whether that's climbing, with a chainsaw in hand, leading ground operations, tackling a challenging dismantle or getting stuck into the next job. Bringing energy, skill and a practical approach to every project, Sam combines years of hands on experience with a strong attention to safety and a determination to do every job properly.

As an experienced tree surgeon and Head of Firewood Production at Shropshire Firewood, he understands timber from standing tree through to premium kiln dried firewood, bringing valuable expertise in timber, woodland management and sustainable resource use across both businesses. He's always happy to stop for a chat with clients, usually once the saw has been switched off.

Chris, business support and operations
Behind the Scenes

Christine Cornish

Chris is the person quietly keeping everything together behind the scenes. From organisation, handling enquiries to making sure someone is always around to take deliveries, she's there to ensure the business keeps ticking over. Whether she's making lunch, picking up whatever gets dropped in her lap or reminding everyone that it's actually time to call it a day, she's always happy to help wherever she's needed.

As Steve's wife and a valued part of the business, she's the calm in the middle of the chaos, helping to keep everything organised while the team are out on site. Much of what she does goes unseen but it's those behind the scenes jobs that help keep RTS moving every day.
